The team won the tournament and brought the winning trophy home! Incredible performances and unforgettable experiences marked the tour. Chiefs/Daisies are the winners of the Namibia Youth Rugby Tournament for the second year in a row with a score of 45 – 13 against UXI WP Academy.

Addressing a Vital Need

Curious Mind Community Development, a dedicated non-profit organization based in Elsies River, operates within the J-Block Flats in Macassar. Their mission is to support and empower young girls and women by providing essential feminine hygiene products. These products are crucial for ensuring that young women do not miss out on daily life and educational opportunities due to financial hardships.

In addition to providing hygiene products, Curious Mind Community Development plays a pivotal role in educating young girls and women on various important topics. Their programs cover the prevention of teen pregnancy, the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and the facts about abortion. They also offer counseling support for cases of rape and gender-based violence, breast cancer awareness, and education on self-breast examinations. Furthermore, the organization provides education and assistance for those battling tuberculosis (TB), helping them access necessary treatments.

Surpassing Our Goals

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the incredible generosity and spirit of our team, we have far surpassed our initial goal of collecting 100 feminine hygiene items. To date, we have gathered over 300 items! This achievement is a testament to the commitment and empathy within our Traderoot Active family. Your contributions will make a significant difference in the lives of many young ladies in underprivileged areas, ensuring they have the essentials needed to participate fully in daily activities and educational opportunities.

A Special Visit from Gerty Klaasen

We are honored to host Gerty Klaasen, the founder of Curious Mind Community Development, at our office on May 28th. Gerty will collect the donated items and share valuable insights about the organization’s impacts and ongoing projects within the community. This visit presents a wonderful opportunity for us to learn more about how our contributions are making a difference and to engage directly with our partner organization.

Traderoot Active proudly introduces our newest ambassador, Jacques Olivier, a young golf prodigy who is taking the golfing world by storm. Despite his tender age, Jacques has already achieved remarkable success in his golfing career, and he continues to inspire others with his dedication, talent, and passion for the sport.

About Jacques Olivier:

At just 12 years old, Jacques Olivier has already made a name for himself in the competitive golfing circuit. Hailing from Windhoek Namibia (Omeya Golf Club), Jacques discovered his love for golf at the age of 2 when his parents took him to a local driving range. From that moment on, he was hooked, and he dedicated himself to mastering the game.

Achievements:

Despite his young age, Jacques Olivier has racked up an impressive list of achievements on the golf course. He has won numerous junior tournaments, showcasing his exceptional skill and talent.

His impressive list of achievements speaks volumes about his talent and dedication to the sport. In 2023, Jacques clinched the title of Centurion Country Club Under 19 B Division Club Champ, as well as the Under 13 Club Champ for the third consecutive year. Notably, he secured second place in the U13 IPT at Magersfontein and holds the esteemed title of No. 1 ranked Gauteng North (Union) U13 player.

With a current handicap index of 2.9, Jacques continues to excel on the greens, boasting impressive scores and tournament victories. His journey to success began in 2018, and since then, he has consistently dominated the golfing scene with remarkable achievements and accolades.

Jacques’s natural ability and determination have earned him recognition among his peers and coaches, solidifying his status as a rising star in the world of golf.

Goal for the US World Golf Championships:

This year, Jacques Olivier has set his sights on the prestigious US Kids Golf World Championships, the pinnacle of junior golf tournaments. Held annually in Pinehurst, North Carolina, this tournament attracts thousands of young golfers from around the world who compete for the title of world champion.

The US Kids Golf World Championships offer young golfers like Jacques Olivier the opportunity to showcase their skills on an international stage and compete against the best players in their age group. With over 25,000 kids from 50 different countries participating in over 1800 tournaments worldwide, the U.S. Kids Golf World Championships is a true testament to the passion and dedication of these young athletes.

With his sights set on victory, Jacques is training tirelessly, honing his technique, and preparing both mentally and physically for the challenge ahead.

Monthly Runs at Hops Ballito:

Our first Sunday monthly runs at Hops Ballito have evolved into a thriving community event. The spirit among our runners and the support from Hops Ballito have been instrumental in the success and growth of these runs. Every participant not only contributes to their fitness journey but also pledges R5 to Salt 40, emphasizing our commitment to giving back.

North Coast Challenger and MTB Challenge:

We kicked off the year with a triumphant start at the North Coast Challenger, a trail race and MTB Challenge at the stunning Holla Trails, Sugar Rush Park in April. Our team, along with Salt 40, participated, creating memorable moments against the picturesque backdrop of the North Coast of KZN.

Durban City Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon:

In March, Brett and Sam Dungan proudly donned their Traderoot Active colours at the Durban City Marathon. In April, our road running heroes, Juan Clarence and Karen Skopelitis, conquered the Two Oceans Marathon, showcasing their endurance and commitment to excellence.

Slave Route Challenge and Comrades Marathon:

May saw the Traderoot Technologies team, including Juan Clarence and Karen Skopelitis, as well as Steven Skopelitis, participating in the Slave Route Challenge in the Western Cape. Juan Clarence continued his extraordinary journey by completing his 5th Comrades Marathon, a testament to his enduring dedication to the sport.

Pedal For Good in Cape Town:

In June, we ventured into new territory with our first Cape Town event, Pedal For Good. Against the backdrop of Paradyskloof’s beautiful mountains, the event marked a successful expansion for Traderoot Active.

Go2Berg Mountain Bike Challenge and RUN Ballito Junction:

Ambassador Gerald @dekockg2018 showcased his prowess by completing the 530kms of mountain biking through SA with the Go2Berg Mountain Bike Challenge. Following this, the 2nd annual 5km community fun run at Ballito Junction in collaboration with ‘I Love Boobies’ was a resounding success in August, bringing the community together for a memorable event.

Rhino Peak Challenge and Cape Town Marathon:

In September, @luckygordy_ raised over R34,000 for the Rhino Peak Challenge, contributing to wildlife conservation projects. October saw Juan Clarence and Karen Skopelitis conquering the Cape Town Marathon once again, marking another achievement for Traderoot Active.

Gordon’s Amashova Adventure for a Cause:

The Amashova race, a KZN cycling staple, witnessed the seasoned participant Gordon taking on the 65km journey in October 2023, not on a traditional road or mountain bike but a BMX bike. This unique challenge, undertaken alongside a fellow rider, was not just about conquering the course but about raising funds for a greater cause—the @salt40_foundation’s upcoming project, the S.A.L.T Kids Campaign. This initiative, launching early next year at Holla Trails in KZN, aims to impact 15 children from Groutville. It involves mentoring in areas like purpose, attitude, discipline, and leadership, along with imparting essential bike skills and emphasizing the importance of physical exercise and positive life choices.

Welcome Gordon Graham:

In a significant October highlight, we welcomed Gordon Graham to the Traderoot Active Ambassador program. Gordon’s passion for triathlons, travel, and inspiring pursuits aligns seamlessly with our ethos, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our dynamic community.

Christmas Run Extravaganza:

Our final Christmas run, held on the 3rd of December ’23, was a fitting conclusion to a year of active endeavours. The record attendance demonstrated the unwavering enthusiasm and camaraderie within the Traderoot Active community. Runners, walkers, and supporters came together, embodying the spirit of togetherness that defines Traderoot Active.

Nedbank Desert Dash with Louis Volschenk:

Closing out the year on an adrenaline-pumping note, Traderoot Africa CEO, @louisvolschenk, took on the challenge of the Nedbank Desert Dash Cycling Race on December 8th ’23. As the final active event of the year, this endeavour exemplifies the resilience, determination, and adventurous spirit that encapsulate the Traderoot Active community.

As we conclude this extraordinary year, we express our gratitude to every participant, supporter, and contributor who has been a part of Traderoot Active’s journey.

To help you look on the brighter side, and to inspire you to “be the change you want to see”, we want to introduce our newest collab and beneficiary – The Salt40 Foundation.

The main objective of the Salt40 Foundation is to uplift disadvantaged people of South Africa by equipping them with skills and development and in general, assisting where possible with welfare needs.

Salt40 currently works with One Million Strong, an organization that teaches children between the ages of 11 and 14 years old values and life skills. They use donated bicycles as an incentive for learners to participate in their current program. Cycling is used as a means of getting the youth interested in the program, in getting active, and finding a worthwhile purpose to pursue.

The Foundation offers bicycle repair skill development with the aim of assisting people in starting their own businesses or finding employment. Further, bicycles are donated to needy and disadvantaged young people to serve as a means to get to school.

Traderoot Active is particularly fond of this outreach project as this initiative is something that perfectly aligns with our goals.

Creating a positive impact in our communities and initiating change is a movement that we wholeheartedly support.

We look forward to assisting Salt40 in their future initiatives and collectively putting smiles on some deserving faces.
